Having a Couturier...

Carl Erickson
SCHIAPARELLI 1948

Green is one of my favorite colors and this 40s striped dress is classically pretty.

Oscar de la Renta, Spring 2013

The color! And tealength!

Love the emerald silk taffeta
My favorite skirt ever! Worn on a date in NY.
I'm avid skirt and dress lover. I can not have enough. From glamour, vintage, to every day and sundresses, they're just a beautiful quintessential staple in any girls' closet. They're so simple to wear and easily glam up a look that could be every day.  I have over 40 skirts in my current wardrobe, most of them full, knee-length, with a good amount of pencil and maxi, which I picked up an obsession with a few summers ago.

In perusing Pinterest, I found these lovely skirt and dress options which I'm now coveting in a major way and decided I need them in my wardrobe. Thankfully, I have a personal seamstress who just happens to live two walking blocks away. It's meant to be, right?! A seamstress I can walk to?!  Natalia is a former Navy uniform maker, turned private couturier, as I like to refer to her.  I feel like I have my own custom clothes maker -- what a dream!  I'm determined to keep her in business, and although until now she's only done alterations, she has these lovely silhouettes in her 'Bren' stash to make for me.  One is almost done, while the others are being tweaked for pattern, color choicee, and my own spin.

I'm particularly excited about the full length Tartan ruffled and gathered dress; a vintage sketch by Carl Erickson for Vogue, circa 1948. Very much a Carolina Herrera-esque (I'm digging for a familial relationship here!) appeal to it I think could walk the red carpet today.

But my recent obsession is tea length  but I'm curating some lovely looks now for a special post I'm working on. For now, get excited with me... I have a couturier about to give new life to my wardrobe! If only I could have everything I dream of, custom made for me!

You know I'll be back to flaunt them when they're all done! I just can not wait.

Yellow & Blue In Brooklyn

My other half!

Producer and director in a lovely floor length dress.

Blue.

Sis and me chatting it up. She's in same shoes in patent burgundy.

I had been waiting for the right opportunity to wear this amazing dress I found about 8 years ago at a quaint vintage shop in D.C. for all of $10! It's from the 60s and boasts an absolutely perfect silhouette. All lace with a peek a boo red zipper in the back and in new condition. It looks like the owner never wore it. Yes, please!

And so on a perfect night atop the Brooklyn Terrance Lounge, I rocked this dress to celebrate the launch of Chic Rebellion, the all new online network where I'm hosting my own show 'Dine Out'. I teased you with looks from some film days here and here! Remember? Finally, it's out and we're enjoying the response.

The blue suede shoes were a perfect punch against the dress. But the hat with a sparkly detail gave the whole look a touch of ass and evening appropriate. I was comfortable and at the end of the night, that's what mattered!

Check out my 1st episode "Food Trucks in D.C." -- I hope you love it! More to come

Mad Men Lips, Cheeks and Yellow Dresses

I'm a baby boomer's child but have always said I would have loved to be a part of the 20s, 40s, and 60s. Those time periods embody such tangible and artistic characteristics that flow with my style. Needless to say men acted like gentlemen and tipped hats upon a lady's entrance, and women curtsied when a tryst called for it. And the fashion... well, we all know the bouffant hairdo, the umbrella dresses of the 20s and the the mini skirts and shift dresses of the 60s. My mom was one fly chica in the 60s with her Mod dresses and waist long hair.

In honor of the wildly popular TV series, Mad Men, which admittedly, I've not seen yet, premier cosmetic house, Estée Lauder put out a sexy, chic lip and cheek collection that mirrors the moda and look of the period. The rouge duo is lovely and bold enough to carry you through the day. It doesn't hurt that both come in keepsake gold sleeves to protect the pretty metal casing. And the mirror? Who does that anymore! I love it.

To pair up my new red blush and lip color, my vintage lemony yellow lace dress, accordingly from the 60s, will go perfectly with it. The look will put me right on set, don't you think! I've had it for about 7 years and have yet to find that perfect event to wear it to. I'm thinking it's time to just rock it. Too pretty to just keep it having on my garment rack!

For perfect cherry lips and evenly toned cheeks, check out the exclusive and limited edition of Estée Lauder's Mad Men collection. You'll feel so fancy and more importantly, look the part!
