With Christmas and the holiday season in full swing, I'm loving and lusting over all the beautiful festive looks the big brands are putting out for us to enjoy. I'm a color wardrobe girl. I love, love color. Far from scared of wearing bold colors. But, this season, I've found some serious adoration for toned down palettes. I'm all about the golds and nudes in my makeup and accessories. Plus, that just makes wearing my colors more doable. Can you imagine, color on color. Not so much. At least from my fashion and beauty perspective. If anything and at most, I'll do a bold lip color and keep everything pretty neutral.
My luxe holiday gift gift featured my top picks in beauty and makeup for gifting. But these are my specific faves I've been tinkering with for frequently.
A quick synopsis of each to help you determine and identify what works for you and if the gold-ish look and effect is what you're after!
Naked Urban Decay Illuminated Shimmering Powder for face and body does the trick if you want a bit of natural sparkle to finish your look. It applies super softly and gives you a lovely glow. So awesome for evening fetes. Don't take this out with you, though. The packaging is lovely but it's too bulky to carry around.
Bobbi Brown Roza and Estée Lauder Rose Gold nail polish. As much as I get keep my hands in water and near heat with all the cooking, it's incredibly difficult to keep a nice manicure, let alone bold colors. It's my preference and what I default to when doing TV. But for every day, the BB nude color is perfect. It's so natural that it looks like I'm not wearing color. And that just works especially if I'm caught with a last minute gig where my hands are in action! And the EL rose gold is my luscious obsession. I'm all about rose gold in anything these days. Anything! Give me more! In fact, I'm looking for some rose gold shoes! Any suggestions??
Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder in 'Aruba'. This is different from the Urban Decay one. It's just for the face and a beauty warm color. It complements medium skin tones like mine. If you're really fair, it'll give you more of a natural tanned looked. For girls similar complexion to mine, this is it if you want glittery (w/out overdoing it) glow to your face. You can even forgo regular powder. Loving this a lot. They have a few other colors, too.
Cargo, Aerin, and Bobbi Brown all have lovely lip glosses for different occasions. Wear them alone, or layer them to create the perfect texture or color you're aiming for. The BB 'Bronzed Heather' is pretty to wear alone and great for day to night wear. Definitely adds glam to your look. Cargo's 'Las Vegas' is a bit matted so it's great to layering over a shimmery lip stick. And the Aerin 'Pink Rose' serves just a nude color if you need something basic on your lips.
The Aerin 'Sequin' lipstick in its pretty bright gold tube casing is for layering. Not a stand alone option unless you've got full lip and a lighter complexion. It stays on pretty long and has dash of sparkle which'll look great on a pink matte lip.
To highlight your eyes, try the Avon 'Disco Metallic' eyeshadow. It's a light creamy white which will balance out any color rock. Alone, it'll highlight any dark circles if applied gently. Try mixing it with a bit of lotion to create that under eye effect.
To finish your eye or highlight it even more, try Aerin's cool gel eyeliner. I've never seen anything so silky smooth in gold like this one. Pure shimmer! Love it. I'm very much a purist when it comes to line... I stick to bold blacks and some dark browns, but this one inspired to step out the box and try to let my eyes shine a bit more!
And finally, for head turning scent, I'm all over Shiseido's 'Zen' perfume. With top notes of dewey blue rose (never tried that) which accentuate citrus sparkle. The center offers freesia and violet. And when you walk away, he'll be woo'd with spicy amber, patchouli, and white musk. I looove me some musky scents. Just love. So bold but confident.
So, those are my options for gold and nudes this season! Of, course there are days where color is the solution to gloomy moods and special parties. These are so amazing for every day, though!
Season's Greetings. Stay chic!
