After the craze over Missoni for Target which I fell for harder than any man in my life, I decided to steer far away from any subsequent designer collaborations. The only good thing that came from copping what seems to be 95% of the serveware pieces (see my set up!) was a new friendship with a lovely gal in North Carolina.
I 1st came to know Wu in 2006 when I saw a stunning red gown strutted on a runway. When he came out with the 1st Lady's white frock, I knew, like everyone else in the fashion industry, that he'd be next big thing.
And sure enough he was. With so much attention, I do wonder why he opted to showcase a line in Target. Though I'm a fan of the bull's eye, I've become weary of major designers launching lines at a discount retailer. Doesn't it leave a resounding note of desperation or greed? I don't know. Optimists say it's great branding -- I say it waters down the line.
Notwithstanding my objection (obviously, a very loose one) to Wu coming to Target, I've been eyeballing the line and have decided I have to own a few pieces.... if for no other reason, simply because he didn't go bananas with the number of pieces he created, hence collected sanity in my head, heart and wallet. And honestly, because a true fashionista doesn't really care where a great piece comes from. It just has to be fabulous.
Kanye would agree. Just go look at his performance at the Victoria's Secret fashion show where he wore the Versace for H&M leather jacket.
These are the pieces I think I'll break down and get... especially the yellow top. Because no chic gal can go without bold, gem colored blouses that stand the test of trends....
