There are some stereotypes I subscribe to... like how Latinas dress on TV. What we normally see on the Spanish-speaking networks are sexy, vava-voom, show-alot, scantily clad anchor women and hosts that get a lot of attention. I've never really understood it since it's not my approach to being sexy. But over time, I've come to appreciate that as a woman, we absolutely have to and should embrace our curves and beautiful features. I realized that's what some of these women were doing, just in a bit over-the-top way. I mean have you seen the the female hosts on the variety show 'Sabado Gigante?' It's like watching Kim Kardashian stripped to a mini dress x 10.
But then I look at Latina superstars like Jennifer Lopez and Thalia, both gorgeous women who epitomize great, fashionable, but not raunchy style, and gravitate towards their vision.
And in celebration of Latina culture and beauty, Vanidades and Macy's have partnered up to showcase Thalia's iconic style in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. She's been named Style Icon of 2013, an easy role for her to dress.
If you're in NY tomorrow, check out a live chat with the mother, author, actress and fashionista at the Herald Square Macy's around 6pm! I'll be in NY but can't stop by, otherwise, I'd be there, checking out her shoes! I'm sure I'll get a glimpse after the fact.
Enjoy for me!
And stay chic.
What's you're favorite look Thalia's rocked on the red carpet?
