Oscars 2012 Red Carpet Looks. Who Wore it So Chic? {Photos}

The 84th annual Academy Awards seemed to be a hit both on the red carpet and in the theater. With the number of stellar nominations, so were the gowns that fancied down the coveted carpet. Here are our have hits and mishaps.

Here's our detailed recap.

These Chicas Wore it Chic!

Viola Davis in Vera Wang. The color. The natural hair. The cut, the bust line. Total perfection. It fit her body like a supple glove. One of the night's best looks!

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton. The coral peplum dress was just fabulous. Very sexy and demure. Too  bad it clashes with the red carpet, but it's about her wearing it. And we love it.

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab. Since Halle couldn't make it due to a broken foot, we just have to love that Milla rocked the night in this Elie Saab gown. Everything about it on her says class and uber chicness. The one shoulder cut is delicate and a great contrast to the starch white. Great styling with those red lips! We <3 .

Ellie Kemper in Armani Privé. Perfect. The color. The glitter. The fit. The match with her bold hair cut. Stunning look for the night.

Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli. Navy blue always looks stunning on the red carpet. The sash was a tad bit odd, but it was rectified by her lovely shape, toned arms and flowy wear of the gown.

Angelina Jolie in Versace. This just kicked ass. Surprised to see her in all black but it worked.

Stacey Keibler in Marchesa. I'm thinking this was meant for her to wear this evening. The placement of the rosette was perfect. The color was stunning and the off the shoulder design worked well on her while less on others.

Rooney Mara in Gievency Haute Couture. The back of the gown did it for me. Clean look with bold lines made it stand out like few others. Very structured but fitting on her frame.

Singer Esperanza Spalding. We don't know who she's wearing but the afro says it all!

Glen Close in Zac Posen. Completely appropriate for her age, the color and full dress and jacket ensemble suited her well. The contrast of her blonde hair was stunning. We loved this look on the seasoned actress.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. This was special. It was very black tie, but kind of relaxed at the same time without saying "lazy." Great dress for a presenter.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji. The way he pulled the lines to the center so as to contour her waist was just genius. The color and bead work was spectacular. I only wish her hair were a bit more polished.

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. Gold and black always, always work. She pulled it off flawlessly!

Penelope Cruz in Armani Privé. We loved everything about her choice to wear this frock. The color was so ethereal and her hair and makeup complemented it all so lovely. Very feminine appeal.

Tina Fey, hand selected to wear Carolina Herrera. The peplum detail as stunning. Fey wore it beautifully, especially with the up-do. We're major fans of this.

Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi. The color of this dress coupled with the flowy sleeves and rhinestone detail made this a knock out on the funny girl! We love how she worked this. Perfect proportions.

The best appearance, hands down was Gwenyth Paltrow in this sleek Tom Ford frock. She was bold and confident to wear cape with a gown that's already screaming "look at me! I'm the whitest one here!" Looks very Calvin Klein Collection.

And These Chicas Wore it Not So Chic!

Funny girl Maya Rudolf in Johanna Johnson. We love the detailing on the shoulder but we just can't figure out what went wrong here. It's a lovely, understated dress, but it just wasn't exciting on Rudolph.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli. The gown as stunning but she didn't have the right frame for it. Her lack of boobage didn't do the bust of the dress much justice.

Natalie Portman in vintage Christian Dior from 1954. We love that her post baby weight is off but the polka dots on this dress are too matronly on the young woman. The color is great for her. And, truthfully, we do like it better than last years choice.

Louise Roe in Black Halo. The gown itself is lovely, but for the Bride's mother at a wedding. Too structured and too masculine. We do love the blush color and bias lines.

Meryl Streep in Lanvin. The Best Actress winner was the Oscar female version. The frock had entirely too much fabric and hid her feminine physique.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhari Murad. J. Lo normally gets it spot on. This time, similar to last years Oscars gown, was just blah. In her case, she wore the hell out of the gown, but the gown was missing some serious vavavoom on her curvaceous frame. And the bust line separates her tatas too much. She's already small.

Sherri Shepard in unknown. We love the cobalt blue! But, considering Sherri is top heavy, a gown with different proportions would be have been better on her body type. This dress simply accentuated her top too much. Great color on her, though.

Ana Feris in Diane von Furstenberg. Too much black with sequins. The length of the arms may have been warm for the chilly evening, but the texture and weight was over the top.

All I can say about Angelina is we get it. Your dress has a slit, and now we can see where babies come from. Eat a meal and keep it down.
LOVED Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman and Emma Stone.
J-Lo looked like cheap Vegas.
Ryan Seacrest told Tina Fey she looked "nice." She looks FAB!!!!!

Stefanie: Rooney was amazing! Did you see the back of the gown?? Lovely.

Michelle: I fell out reading your comment! LOL! Hahahaha. Great commentary. Somone on my FB page said J.Lo's dress looked like a $5 thread reel that would unravel if you pulled on one string! And yes, Angelina, what was that all about??? The dress was stunning, though. Her arms look worse than tree twigs. Wasn't a fan of Natalie Portman's look at all. Emma Stone needed to fill her dress though she killed her presentation.

Mercedes: Yes! She was my 2nd Fave!

So many beautiful fashion choices at the Oscars this year...many hits and not too many misses. And no one came with a swan or a tutu as their dress so it's a good year for the Oscars! :)

I thought Glen Close and Milla Jovovich both looked incredible. I thought the best dressed was actually a non-actress, Guiliana Rancic from E! Her dress was a dream!

Great recap especially since I didn't get to wath them. They all look great but that dress on Gwentyh is goorgeous. Her silhouette is just amazing. And I agree with you about Jennifer Lopez. She's so passe sometimes. Still beautiful.
