Taking It Way Back & Forth

A few weekends ago, i decided to trek to my sweet girlfriend's house for an impromptu Latin dinner. The temp was chilly, but just right. I had 20 minutes to get dressed since my friend was picking meeting me. And for me, 20 minutes is never enough time. Especially when I have laptops to tow (b/c I'm a social media-aholic) and hundreds of shoes to choose from.

But, since these are my favorite purchase from late fall, it was easy to throw them on. My hair was still soaking wet, so I threw on a fabulous throw-back koofi a la Queen Latifah. It only made sense to rock my 80s Versace sunnies, which I won't tell you how much I paid for!

I loved the whole look and will most def show you the ensemble when I edit all the images. For now, I was simply inspired to reminisce in the 80s and embrace the fashion forwardness the 10s has brought about, hence the 6" stilettos.

What a great juxtaposition, right!

Oh and the story behind the pics. I took the first one on my iPhone on the way to my friends house---the one driving. And the shoe shot was me acting silly while he drove to our friend's house! B/c surely I'd never hike my leg up on the dashboard and take it while driving! Or would I!?! ;)

Happy Friday! What are you wearing! Share!

Finding a New Pair of Shoes!

Isn't it wonderful when you find a $100 bill inside an old, raggedy jacket or torn jeans?!? Well I felt like that last week when I found these! I snatched these lovelies up about 8 years ago and almost forgot I had them until the other day when I was looking for another pair of fabulous shoes.

Come to think of it, I've not worn these in over 4 years which begs the question 'how much do I really love them?' or, do I really have that many shoes that I forgot I had these!? Wow. Either way, they're pure hotness! Everything about them is worth every penny I paid.

The curved up toe, the dainty bow, the hump in the heel, the ruffle vamp? Sick, right!?

Designer shoes sometimes are really just the absolute best. With all the craze over 6" and platforms, these prove that timelessness is priceless!

I can't wait to wear them again and so excited about how I'll accessorize them. And, hopefully before this winter weather breaks into spring so that you can see how fabulous they look on the foot.

FENDI suede pumps.

{Hollywood Lens in Atlanta}

Fashion Week is well under way and all kinds of glamour is lacing the culture of Manhattan. Some of the coverage I've seen in the last few days has me gasping and barely able to keep up, let alone have any kind of level of sanity.

It's that serious. So, I really need to get my thoughts (and images together) for a thorough and drool-worthy recap, filled with inspirations and wish lists, before I can do the artistic work any true justice. That means I have to fill this space with other lovely things, in the form of art, though this time with A-liust entertainers in their element as the subject of the lens.

If you remember one of my 1st posts after I revived this dormant blog, I featured my friend and photographer, Shannon, who whisked his fiancée away to Paris and married her. If you missed it, look here and be jealous. Really jealous.

Shannon is a well-known and revered photog in Atlanta and his sick, crazy talent has landed him gigs with big shots and strip-worthy men like John Legend, one of his main clients and my future husband (Shannon's working on that). But his work isn't limited to pop culture icons we know. He's traveled the world and documented poor yet wise women to homeless children with infectious smiles.

The wedding in Paris started a whole new life for Shannon and his wife, so to celebrate and introduce his new home, a NY-style flat in the crux of Atlanta, he hosted a chic and well displayed exhibit of his dope art.

I went and this is what I saw--through my lens.

John Legend playing piano
Dizzy Gillespie killing the horn
Performer's shoes
Janelle Monae, who performed at Sunday's Grammy's
Local model
Local fashion model
Hip-hop artist Lil' Wayne
Jazz icon Wynton Marsalis
School wall message
John Legend and Kanye West
Erykah Badu
Wise African woman
Guest and I, Shannon and I in my kick-ass booties I've featured before (not Shannon's work)

On me: F21 sequin beret; vintage crystal earrings; Murano rosette ring, Gold lamé dress, silk Helmut Lang coat, Pour La Victoire booties

An Affair With Spirits {A Lover's Occassion}

I'm kind short for words today. Have lots of the mind and I'm cooking dinner for a group of single friends tonight in just a few hours! But, in recognition of the biggest and most commercialized day to lovers, here's a drink you can make and sip on tonight with your honey, your best girlfriends or even by yourself.

And, then have this dessert with it. It's do.die.for. Especially if you like creamy custards!

I was inspired to make this after my friends at Sauza tequila sent me some bottles of their Silver and Añejo smooth tequila to taste. So.... I started playing around with all kinds of recipes and came up with this creamy drink that will knock you and ova! It's sexy to the say the least. Not to mention it as coffee liquor in it! But, the tequila and schnapps do all the talking.... careful what you say... it might come back on you!

Happy Valentine's Day, lovelies!

B's S.A.D Affair
1 oz. good tequila
1/2 oz. Gold Schlagger
1/2 oz. Patron Café XO
1/3 oz. Bailey's Caramel
1 oz. half & half ( I used 2% milk for foam)
ice

Add all spirits to martini shaker and shake well. Garnish your glass's rim with ground coffee. Strain drink into glass. Add more ice if desired.

Getting My Happy Back: Spa Treatments & Wine {And Giveaway!}

do you ever feel like you want to throw it all up in the air and go back to what you know!??! That's where I am right now. Won't bore you here with what my life 10 years ago used to be like, but in retrospect it was easy. I was in love. I traveled with the man I was in love with. I learned a new language. I dressed as if no one was looking or judging. I did things with no planning and I just loved everything I did! I was in a super happy place.

I was even in that happy place up until the middle of last year. Being a self-employee while working on building an empire can sure take a toll and start chipping away at those things that make me happy. Super happy, b/c that's the only way to really live life!

Since I'm quickly getting tired of the little things (and even big things like an unpublished book) that take away my mojo, I'm going to focus daily on things make me smile and fall in love no matter what.

I started yesterday!

A dear friend, a new one at that, treated me to a full spa day! Yes, girlies! A 6-hour day at the spa, doing all I love, bar none! Spa Sydell is a prominent day spa in Atlanta, GA boasting 6 locations in really neighborhoods. Each facility is different, but the concept is the same: To provide an escape to feel better. I was there for my birthday back in Nov. but like this time!

It started with a 90-minute full body massage by the soft-spoken Paulette who begged me to breath and breath and breath and "let it all out!" But shit, my back was hurting so bad, it was hard to! But I tried every 10 minutes or so. I then went and got a great facial where I was expecting the aesthetician to tell me how bad my skin was (you know that time of the month likes to bother me), but she loved my skin and complimented me to no end! She simply suggested a few prods that would help with the few brown spots I have on my cheeks. And then a fab and super healthy gourmet lunch with Voss water followed by a luscious and very relaxing mani and pedi!

I chose two awesome colors from the OPI Burlesque collection. I like to play with colors so I  mixed & matched a dark green with a glittery gold: match made in spa heaven!

The ladies that took care of me were sweet and over-indulging, making sure I was treated like  a Diva. The better part and what topped it all off was my lovely friend who's seen my stress and urged me to come in and just let loose. I did just that.

The spa was laced with waterfalls, soothing music, aromatic scents that followed you everywhere and lighting that initiated mini naps.  It's the place you really want to go to let go of all inhibitions, boy problems and the negative energy!

I left there renewed, refreshed and excited about getting my happy back. I was giddy leaving with my two choice colors of OPI polish and ginger souffle for by body.

All that pampering set me back for my dinner date at a sexy chic but rustic Italian restaurant, Taverna Fiorentina--an authentic Sicilian posh place not too far me. My dear friend Deborah invited me out to experience an amazing tasting which I'll speak more at on my food blog. Though I was fashionably late, the menu was intoxicating that I went right for it!!

6" stilettos, a fresh mani being rocked with new nail color and 3 glasses of  Moscato later (only after a fine red from a visiting winemaker from Italy whom happened to be sitting next to me at the table) and I realized how lucky I am. I mean really! What a romantic day just for moi!

These are only a few things to start helping me get my happy back that I'll start sharing with you luvlies.  I deserve these kinds of indulgences, no matter how stressed I am, busy or unmotivated. I say to you: Just do it! Take it! Embrace and love the new you!

And so a giveaway!!! I'm in a happy mood and want to share some happy with you! Some of you may know my fabulous and superbly generous mother is a jewelry designer! Well, I've collabo'd with her a few times and have come up with some lovely pieces that I wear!
